About me
I've never been very good at doing just one thing.
I'm curious by nature, I like figuring things out, and I'm happiest when there is something new to learn, build or solve.
Over the past 18+ years, that has taken me through diplomacy, technology, agencies, startups, entrepreneurship, GTM and commercial leadership.
And increasingly, I've realised I don't need to choose just one lane.
I'm interested in figuring things out.
As a child, I loved detective stories. I liked looking for clues, understanding what had happened and figuring out why.
Looking back, that instinct has never really left me.
I still approach problems in much the same way: understand what's actually happening, look for the clues, ask better questions, work out what can be changed, and see what happens next.
Sometimes that's a business that needs to find a way to grow. Sometimes it's a problem that needs a new product. Sometimes it's a completely unfamiliar subject that I suddenly want to understand.
The subject changes. The instinct doesn't.
A somewhat unconventional career
I've never really followed a straight line.
I've lived and worked across different countries and cultures, moved between corporate environments, agencies and startups, built teams and businesses, and repeatedly found myself in situations where there wasn't an obvious playbook.
I don't need to know the answer on day one.
I'm comfortable with ambiguity because I don't expect everything to be figured out immediately.
For me, leadership isn't about having all the answers or pretending you do. It's about taking responsibility, creating enough direction to move forward, and trusting yourself and the people around you to figure out the rest.
I'm naturally fast and results-oriented, but I've also learned that efficiency isn't everything. There's always a person behind the problem, the decision or the process.
These days, I care just as much about how we get somewhere as whether we get there.
What matters to me
Curiosity
I don't believe there is only one right way of doing things. Different people, cultures and perspectives are often different answers to the same problem.
Freedom
I value independence and the ability to make choices that are aligned with my values.
Trust
I want people to know I have their back. And I need to know they have mine.
Fairness
Enjoyment, ambition and success should never come at someone else's expense.
Courage
The willingness to try something difficult, change direction when the evidence says to, and step outside what is comfortable.
I don't believe in compartmentalising everything
Work is one part of my life. So are horses, learning, travel, adventure, people and all the strange rabbit holes I inevitably fall into.
I've become increasingly interested in building a portfolio career: bringing different experiences, interests and skills together rather than forcing myself into a single professional identity.
That might mean helping a company rethink its go-to-market strategy in the morning and working with a horse in the afternoon.
To me, those aren't contradictory. They're both ways of learning, observing and figuring things out.I don't need to know the answer on day one.
There is always more to learn
Horses have taught me a different kind of communication. You can't explain what you want in words. You have to observe, listen and understand what the other side is telling you.
They negotiate constantly: what they can do, what they don't want to do, where they're comfortable and where they're not.
Learning about anatomy and biomechanics has given me another lens through which to understand them, but the biggest lesson has been simpler:
Pay attention.
The answer is often there if you know how to look.
A few things you won't find on my resume
I'm curious about almost everything.
My knowledge tends to be broad rather than deep. Give me a subject and there's a good chance I'll disappear down a rabbit hole.
I'm competitive, but I don't really care about winning.
I like being pushed. Losing doesn't bother me nearly as much as not trying.
I'm probably goofier than I look.
Apparently I can come across as composed, charismatic and knowledgeable. People who know me well will tell you there's a fairly ridiculous person underneath.
I care a lot.
About people. About animals. About doing things properly. About fairness. Probably more than I always show.
